Hymn Sings
The 30th season of old-fashioned hymn sings will feature a different
organist and music leader each time who will guide the singers who attend. This
month features Patrick Gilbert of Mineral Point as leader, with Sue Gilbert as
organist and Dan, Travis and Carson Gilbert on trumpet. Sponsored by Rural
Musicians Forum, the sings are scheduled for the first Sunday of each month
through October. The hymn sings are nondenominational and open to everyone to
attend regardless of singing ability. Refreshments are served and there is no
admission charge but freewill offerings are welcome.

Observational Astronomy Course at Taliesin with John Heasley
This course invites you to see the heavens with Galileo in the inspiring
setting and dark skies of Taliesin. Indoor presentations will cover the life,
times, and discoveries of Galileo as well as the fundamentals of stargazing. You
will have an opportunity to construct a “Galileoscope”—a simple telescope
modeled on Galileo’s. When darkness falls, we will move outside and use
Galileoscopes, telescopes, and binoculars to see the heavens as Galileo did (and
even better). Classes will be held in the historic landmark space of Frank Lloyd
Wright’s original studio at Taliesin, Spring Green. Fee: $75 (including
materials). Students grade 5-8 free if accompanied by an adult course

Spring Art Tour
Professional artists in Mount Horeb, Blue Mounds, Black Earth, Verona, Cross
Plains, Mazomanie and towns in between, will be opening their studios for the
third annual Spring Art Tour, presented by the Mount Horeb Area Arts
Association. All are within a fifteen mile radius of Mount Horeb. The range in
art is wide, including painting, jewelry, origami, sculpture, ceramics, glass,
photography and more. Visitors will be able to watch the artists at work in
their studios and shop their wares.

LitFest at Spring Green
Culver’s
At the “Book Fun in the Sun” event, 10% of the day’s sales at Culver’s
will go to the Spring Green Literary Festival. Scoopie, the Culver’s mascot will
be on hand, along with summer reading lists, and a chance to win a set of the
LitFest books. Anyone registering for the Festival that day will receive a free
Value Meal, and we also will be handing out book covers to all ages, which can
be returned to Culver’s throughout the summer in exchange for free

Sunday in the Cemetery
Walk Walnut Hill Cemetery and hear the stories of thirteen folks buried
there as told by actors portraying them. Hear about a former slave who tried to
enlist in the Civil War, a civil war veteran who had over 1200 people attend his
funeral, a woman whose sister brought art from France to decorate her grave, and
Al and Lou Ringling among the cast. Guided tours will leave every 15 minutes
from the Madison Street gate. Expect about an hour of walking over grassy uneven
ground. Tour will go on rain or shine and tickets are non-refundable. Cost:

Hymn Sings
The 30th season of old-fashioned hymn sings will feature a different
organist and music leader each time who will guide the singers who attend. This
month features Joy Bickford of Montford as leader, with Helen Birkemeier of
Spring Green as organist. Sponsored by Rural Musicians Forum, the sings are
scheduled for the first Sunday of each month through October. The hymn sings are
nondenominational and open to everyone to attend regardless of singing ability.
Refreshments are served and there is no admission charge but freewill offerings
are welcome.

Chinese Watercolor Workshop with Yueh-mei Cheng
Internationally celebrated Taiwanese artist Yueh-mei Cheng, Associate
Professor Finlandia University, will introduce the fundamentals of the
spontaneous style of Chinese painting, using simple strokes of ink and subtle
color washes. Participants will tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and Asian art
collection, and learn the Chinese masters’ secrets of composition and
spontaneous painting. Please bring personal watercolor materials. Extra material

A Day Of Reflection On The Impermanence Of Life
Georgia Weithe, author of “Shining Moments: Finding Hope In Facing Death”
invites you to join her in approaching the end of life from a sidelong glance,
and reflect on the impermanence of life using poetry, stories from great wisdom
traditions, as well as our own life journey. Join her for a day of reflection,
journaling and discussion (lunch included) in her log cabin retreat near Spring

Utilizing crystal bowls and other carefully selected acoustic instruments,
Rahbi weaves flowing improvisations intended to facilitate resonance within the
systems of those attending, and thus support their greater balance with nature

The 30th season of old-fashioned hymn sings will feature a different
organist and music leader each time who will guide the singers who attend. This
month features Dawn VanEpps of Dodgeville as leader, with Mary Dunn of Mineral
Point as organist. Sponsored by Rural Musicians Forum, the sings are scheduled
for the first Sunday of each month through October. The hymn sings are
nondenominational and open to everyone to attend regardless of singing ability.
Refreshments are served and there is no admission charge but freewill offerings
are welcome.

Carr Valley Cheese is offering another season of the new Carr Valley Cooking

Cody Reynolds started cooking 11 years at Ovens of Brittany in Madison. He was
quickly promoted to night line supervisor and sauté where he learned French
cooking techniques, which is Cody’s passion. With experience in many different
restaurants in the Madison area from Captain Bills, The Edgewater, Old Fashioned
and Madison Concourse to helping to open Vox Wine Lounge, Cody has had a lot of
experience in many kitchens. He is currently the general manager and executive

Spring Green Literary Festival
The twelfth annual literary festival features three award-winning novelists
and short story writers—Tony Earley, author of Jim the Boy, a national
bestseller; Hillary Jordan, author of her debut novel Mudbound; and
Benjamin Percy, author of two books of short stories Refresh, Refresh and
The Language of the Elk. The festival begins with readings by the authors
on Friday, September 11 at the Gard Theater, 111 E. Jefferson Street, Spring
Green. The readings are free and open to the public. On Saturday, September 12,
at Hillside School at Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright’s estate on Hwy. 23, authors
lecture and lead workshops. A three-hour Writer’s Workshop will be led by
Benjamin Percy. He teaches the MFA program in creative writing at Iowa State
University. Registration is $45 before June 15, $55 thereafter. The Writer’s
Workshop is an additional $25 before June 15, $30 thereafter. Student fee is

Middleton, WI. Mike Boss is a 27 year veteran of the restaurant business. As

cut his teeth in his father’s kitchen at the Fire House in Prairie du Sac as a
