“Celebrating Spirit” Exhibition
This exhibition featuring the work of Joyce Gust, a Wisconsin printmaker and
painter, will show a range of work covering two decades of mixed media

Dinner and a Movie Fundraiser
The River Valley Community Learning Foundation is hosting dinner and a
movie. Start the evening with Greek salad and a dessert in the upstairs
“taverna” at The Shed from 5:30 to 7:30pm. Tickets for dinner are $10 and must
be purchased in advance and no later than August 31st. Liquid libations are not
included! Then head outside to enjoy local night before wandering over to The
Gard Theater to dance, jive and have the time of your life at 8:00pm for the one
time only, sing-along, dance-along showing of MammaMia! Bring your
flashlight. Printed lyrics will be provided but chances are you know the words
already! Movie tickets are $6 for students and $8 for adults. Tickets for the
dinner and the movie are available in advance at Nina’s and The Shed. There may
be movie tickets available at the theater the night of the showing, but we are
hoping to be sold out. All proceeds from the evening will go to The River Valley
Community Learning Foundation and will eventually be dispersed back into the
community.

Hymn Sings
The 29th season of old-fashioned hymn sings will feature a different organist
and music leader each time who will guide the singers who attend. This month
features Doug Swenson of Madison as leader, and Helen Birkemeier of Spring Green
playing the organ. Sponsored by Rural Musicians Forum, the sings are scheduled
for the first Sunday of each month through October. The hymn sings are
nondenominational and open to everyone to attend regardless of
singing ability. Refreshments are served and there is no admission charge.

ClydeFest ’08
The Clyde Community Center will be hosting an afternoon of music, food, and
fun at its second annual “ClydeFest.” Bring your lawn chair and/or blanket—the
festival will be held out on the lawn. Music will be performed by a number of
talented Clyde residents including Bill Schmidt, Daniel and Judy Gilbertson, Dan
Wood, Ayla Langer, Ted Frank, and The Clydesdales. Food vendors will be at the
event with a variety of items for sale. In addition, booths will be set up both
inside and outside the community center for Clyde-area vendors. Vendors will be
offering items such as perennial plants and landscape design, arts, crafts, and
organic fruit. There will be a variety of children’s lawn games throughout the
afternoon. Games will start at 12:30 pm. There will also be a face painting and
craft table. Free to the public.

Spring Green Fire and EMS Dance
Spring Green Fire/EMS annual dinner and dance. The sit down social/dinner will be held from
5pm-8pm. Food will also be served at the bar all night. Live music by SuperTuesday will
be held from 8:30pm until 12:30am. In 2007 and to date, fire and EMS staff have
responded to a record number of emergencies from fires and evacuations to
accidents and medical emergencies. Tickets: $5 donation.

Spring Green Literary Festival 2008
This annual event is a mix of readings, intimate group discussions with the
authors, and relaxation—all in the gently rolling hills made famous by Frank
Lloyd Wright. 2008 LitFest includes award winning authors:
Charles Baxter, novelist and short story writer; James DeVita, novelist and
playwright; and Honor Moore, poet and nonfiction writer. Saturday is exclusively open to registrants.
Ticket prices: $55, student $25. The cost of attendance includes a continental breakfast, entrance to the all-day conference, and a catered lunch in the
Fellowship dining hall. An additional fee of $30 ($25 for students) is required
for the optional Writers Workshop.

Sisters.” From her website, “Her twelfth book, Night Sisters,

Film Showing of “Cut”
View the film “Cut” by Madison film producer and director, Wendy Schneider.
“Cut” addresses self injury, a topic that is largely unacknowledged and affects
many of our young people. Schneider uses a combination of words, music, and
artwork to bring to light the truths of this sensitive topic. This opportunity
is made available through the Spring Green Center For Creativity by a grant from
the Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital and the River Valley Community Learning

third full weekend each October, some of Wisconsin’s best-known artisans
invite you into their studios. Now in its 15th year, the Fall Art Tour draws
visitors from all over the country. Visit artists’ studios tucked away in the
scenic hills in and around Wisconsin’s art communities of Mineral Point,
Spring Green/Dodgeville and Baraboo. During the 3-day tour, artists will be in
their studios, demonstrating their work. Many of these studios are open only for

Book Reading by Richard Cates, Jr.
Richard Cates, Jr. will be reading and signing his new book, “Voices From
the Heart of the Land,” on Saturday, October 18. The author will be present from
12:00 noon to 3:00pm to meet and greet, and will read at 3:00pm. The book is
described as “A collection of reminiscences, observations, and opinions from
more than 30 River Valley area families.” Free and open to the public.

Historical Society to Hold Open House
The Old Franklin Township Hall will be open to the public and members on the
third Sunday of September and October. The OFTHS hopes anyone interested will
