Auditions for “Ole and Lena’s Wedding”
“Ole and Lena’s Wedding” is a comedy about what goes awry on the wedding day
of Ole Olaffson and Lena Lundberg, complete with bickering family members, a
band that shows up with only half their musicians, a wedding planner who thinks
he’s catering the social event of the year, and a pastor who seems to have found
the secret stash of communion wine. The performance will be in Spring Green on
Saturday, April 10th, at 7:30pm. If ticket sales are strong, we will add a
matinee at 2:30pm. The play will be about 50/50 scripted and improvised, so you
should be comfortable with audience interaction. There will also be music, some
of which will be original material. Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, March 9th
and will take place in the evenings and on weekends. Not all performers will be
required to attend all rehearsals. Needed are male and female actors aged 16 to
65, plus singers and musicians. There are many roles that will require very
little dialogue, such as musicians, bridesmaids, groomsmen, uncles & aunts,
cousins & nephews, and a photographer.

Concert by The April Verch Band
The April Verch Band, with April at the helm on the fiddle, delivers richly
textured phrasing on traditional roots tunes, bluegrass and newgrass melodies,
jazz-influenced compositions, and country music. When April trades her fiddling
for the rhythmic art of stepdancing, the band takes on the sound of the old
lumber camp halls where those without instruments created rhythms with their
feet. The metal taps on April’s shoes generate exhilarating cadences that
enhance her traditional Ottawa Valley arrangements. It’s even more impressive
when April continues playing intricate rifts on her fiddle while dancing the
rhythmic pulse that drives the tune. The overall effect on her audiences is
electrifying. Tickets: $15 general, $13 members.

River Valley Players Presents “ENCHANTED APRIL”
Set in the 1920’s, this romantic comedy centers around four English women
who rent a castle on a remote Italian island to try to come to grips with their
lives and relationships. During their enchanted month in Italy, the ladies fall
under the spell of their idyllic, sun-drenched surroundings. They rediscover
laughter, learn new truths about themselves and find the romance they long for.

Concert by The Special Consensus
The Special Consensus repertoire features original compositions by band
members and professional songwriters (such as “Dusk ’Til Dawn” and “Margarita
Breakdown”). The repertoire also includes traditional bluegrass standards (songs
by Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, etc.) and songs by artists from other musical
genres (such as “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin). As a result of this musical
diversity, The Special Consensus has performed at the most traditional bluegrass
festivals and has also been the band to bridge the gap between traditional and
progressive bands at more diverse festivals and fairs. Their driving music will
have you tapping your toes long after the concert is done! $15 general
admission, $13 members.
