ANNOUNCING THE SGAAC
LOGO COMPETITION WINNER

The Spring Green Area Arts Coalition proudly announces the winner of its “Logo Design Competition.” She is Erin Anstett of 137 N. Winsted Street, Spring Green. Erin is employed as the graphic designer for Walnut Hollow in Dodgeville, where she designs product packaging, project idea booklets, signage, catalogues, and print advertisements. Erin is currently involved with redesigning the company’s corporate website.

As designer of the winning entry, Erin will receive a check in the amount of $100.

The logo design competition attracted 15 designs, submitted by a total of ten different artists. Entries were received from as far away as New York City. Three of the Arts Coalition’s board members served as the jury for the competition.

In its strong lines and simple, formal composition, Erin’s design recalls the “Arts and Crafts Movement”, a “school of design” that began in Britain in the late 19th century and found its way to America shortly after. This “Movement” both influenced and was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. The basic shape of Erin’s logo, an upright rectangle with a small scallop taken out at both top and bottom, strongly suggests a ticket, such as might be purchased for entry to a movie or other arts event. The top half features the letters of the Coalition’s acronym, SGAAC, arranged in two rows of panels. The bottom half of the ticket contains the full name of the Coalition, in three lines, with ARTS in large boldface type in the middle.

In addition to its prominent placing on all future Arts Coalition correspondence and promotional material, the new logo will soon be on display in a number of businesses and public spaces throughout the greater Spring Green area.

Erin was raised in the town of Omro, Wisconsin, a small river community west of Oshkosh. She attended the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, beginning with a major in music. As her involvement and interest in the visual arts matured, she changed her focus and graduated with a BA in Art with an emphasis in graphic design.

Erin’s career was initiated in Madison, Wisconsin working as a designer and technical illustrator for a manufacturing facility. To further nurture her creative skills, Erin accepted a graphic designer position at an advertising agency in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. In early 2003, she took her current position with Walnut Hollow. Last May Erin and her fiancé, Brian Fuller, moved from their small apartment on Madison’s East side to their first home in Spring Green. With the extra space a house provides, Brian has been able to convert most of the basement into a workshop for his custom guitar building/repair business, Yahara Guitars. Erin makes use of these tools for creating wood and metal sculptures, one of her many artistic outlets. She also enjoys painting, sewing, playing the flute and guitar, and just about any do-it-yourself home project she can dream up. Screen printing is her newest creative endeavor. Erin has dedicated home office space for her freelance graphic design projects and, in the future, would like to work from home as a full-time, freelance designer.

The Coalition would like to thank all of the artists who submitted designs. Every design elicited “oohs” and “ahhs” from the Coalition’s 15 board members and from those few other lucky people who had a chance to view them.
