Arts Coalition Sponsors Recycled Art Auction

Posted on: 2012-01-21

The Spring Green Area Arts Coalition is holding a silent and live auction of recycled art on Sunday, January 29 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm at the Green Technology Training and Enterprise Center located in Plain’s Honey Creek Business Park, immediately north of town on Highway 23. The proceeds from the fund-raising event, “Art Out of the Closet,” will go to support local arts and cultural programs that benefit communities in the River Valley.

This year’s event will feature Creative Canvases, 8x8-inch squares of original art created by area artists using a variety of media. To own one of these unique pieces for your home or office, $30 certificates can be purchased at local businessesAnn Marie’s Garden Café in Plain, Arcadia Books, Convivio, the General Store in Spring Green, and The Shoppe at Herbs Spices and More in Arena. Names of the participating artists are listed on the back of the certificates. During the auction, the holders of the certificates will choose the Creative Canvas of their choice. Over 65 canvases and samples of donated art for the auction are on exhibit during January in the community room of the Spring Green Community Library.

Donations of art, including original paintings, fine art posters, pottery, jewelry, glass, photographs, textiles and lithographs, continue to be accepted at M&I Bank and The General Store. Deadline for donations is January 23.

Good food and beverages will be served throughout the event. Soups and chilis are donated by Driftless Depot, the Kitchen at Arcadia Books, The Shed, The General Store in Spring Green and The Shoppe at Herbs Spices and More in Arena. Beverages are donated by local micro-brewers. Entertainment is provided by the Point Five Band, an Americana acoustic band from Mineral Point. The event also serves as the Arts Coalition’s annual meeting.
