Ten Grants Awarded to Local Arts Groups

The Spring Green Area Arts Coalition gave $3,000 to 10 of 12 applicants requesting funds up to $500 for projects in the performing arts, literature, and visual arts. Awarded this year: River Valley Elementary Studio School in support of local artists who will work with 41 young students in photography, ceramics, music and visual art; the Wyoming Valley School to fund additional track of the Walker Display System that allows art and photograph exhibits; Marnie Bullock Dresser for “Creativity on the Tracks,” a creative performance of original, narrative poetry by local actors at The Sh*tty Barn next to the railroad tracks, thus the name; the River Valley Middle School Shakespeare Group to fund the study and performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, led by actor David Daniel; River Valley High School Art for portable display panels and pedestals which allow art students to bring their art into the community and the community into the school; Arena Elementary School for “Singing in the Garden,” a method of creating songs--lyrics and melodies--that help students retain information about the planting of their school garden, the types of vegetables and how they grow and how the garden is maintained; the Rural Musicians Forum for the performance of pianist Raffi Besalyan and his wife, a violinist with the Green Bay Symphony, during the Unity Chapel Summer Concert Series; Sh*tty Barn for publicity of public events during the 2012 season; American Players Theatre to help underwrite Spring Green Nights at APT which offers deeply discounted tickets for local residents; River Valley High School Choir for music, choreographer and costumes for performance of musicals.

Funding for these projects comes from fundraising events such as the annual game show at The Gard, the recycled art auction, “Art Out of the Closet,” and donations by area businesses, organizations and individuals.
