"MEET THE ARTS COALITION"
RETURNS TO SPRING GREEN

The Spring Green Area Arts Coalition (SGAAC) will bring its Meet the Arts Coalition “roadshow” back to Spring Green on Tuesday, May 4, 2004, to celebrate “The Merry Month of May”. The event will be held in the Little Theater at River Valley High School beginning at 7:00 pm. The Coalition invites all who are interested in area arts and culture—and particularly those who are interested in welcoming in the spring season with light-hearted fun and entertainment—to join them for refreshments, an introduction to the Coalition’s mission and goals, and a program inspired by the diversity of talent, both young and not so young, of our area. The event is free and everyone is welcome.

SGAAC was established in September, 2003, to nurture and enhance art and culture in the region by helping to promote existing arts events, organizations, and programs; by encouraging new venues and opportunities for the visual, literary, and performing arts; and by stimulating exploration of area folkways and history. Although the Coalition’s “boundaries” are still being defined, it seeks to serve a broad geographic area, and this gathering is the fifth in a series of community meetings being held across the area.

The May 4th event in Spring Green will feature a little of everything and everything will be “light”: poetry from John Ingham and Charles Allen Wyman; dance by Sara Winters and Kelsey Puttnam; Jenafer Humphries, virtuoso and new mom, will sing a couple of her favorites; the RV High School Saxophone Quartet will add their tuneful course to the musical banquet; and the twenty-plus strapping young men of the River Valley Männer Kor (men’s chorus) will take things over the top with their renditions of Men in Tights and Man of La Mancha, among others.

Also on display will be some of the student art from the May 2nd River Valley High School Art Show.

All are welcome: the interested, the curious, members, non-members, everyone. Those who have attended an earlier “Meet the Coalition” event will be surprised to discover a completely different show: the entertainment, like the food and conversation, is always fresh and full of zest!

The Arts Coalition is a membership organization, which means that members elect a board and participate in planning and implementing activities. SGAAC is actively recruiting members and volunteers. It is now more than one-third of the way toward achieving its goal of 300 members by year’s end. Annual membership is $5 for individuals and $35 for businesses and organizations.
